Transitional Living Program

Charlie’s House, founded in 1999, is a transitional living home for men in early recovery from alcohol and other drug addictions. The mission of the home is to provide a recovery environment to addicts and alcoholics as they sharpen their tools for their transition into the community at large. The residents of Charlie’s House are required to participate in the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which is an aftercare program of Aspell Recovery Center. Aspell Recovery Center is our residential treatment program under TAMB of Jackson, TN.  Charlie’s House is self-funded through rent paid by the residents. The house is available to any man willing to make a commitment to recovery. The long-term commitment for Charlie’s House mirrors that of the gentlemen for which it received its name, Charlie Gay, a pioneer of recovery in the West Tennessee area. The long-term vision of Charlie Gay was that a transitional home be available to ensure hope and help for those suffering from addiction.

IOP is a structured non-residential program for individuals with a primary or secondary alcohol or other drugs of abuse dependency. It is the mission of IOP to provide intensive outpatient alcohol and drug treatment services to those individuals who, for financial or other reasons cannot access treatment elsewhere.

IOP services are as follows:

·     Alcohol and Drug Education

·     Group Therapy

·     Big Book Study

·     Step Group

·     Individual Therapy

·     Family Therapy

·     Introduction to 12 Step Groups (i.e., AA, NA, CA, Alanon)

·     Financial Management Groups

·     Employment Preparation Education

The goals of IOP are to:

(A)  Assess and modify behavior problems related to chemical dependency,

(B)  Assert in the development of skills necessary to live as independently as possible and eliminate his destruction in the community and

(C)  Help clients to develop a positive support system for continuing recovery.

We strive to liberate clients from their disease of addiction and lead them to a life of quality and empowerment. TAMB of Jackson, TN, understands that the remedy we provide works! Successful treatment benefits us all by:

·        Reducing Crime and Unemployment

·        Savings in Local, State, and Federal Tax Dollars

·        Improving the Quality of Life for Individuals, Families and the Community.

·        Reducing Alcohol/Drug Related Traffic Deaths.

McCowat House has goals and a mission similar to that of Charlie’s House, however McCowat House is a step-down. McCowat House is a transitional facility for the alumni of Charlie’s House. Once a resident has completed 3-months at Charlie’s House they are free to continue in the program or return to society as a clean and sober citizen. Many residents stay longer than the 3-months. The regulations of McCowat House will be much more relaxed however; will have some conditions in place. McCowat House is also self-funded through rent paid by residents.

It is important to everyone on staff that we rebuild and restore individual purpose, integrity, and a sense of belonging to each of our residential and intensive outpatient clients. All of our services are geared toward personal adjustment and educating the client to improve relations within the workplace, society, and family by assisting residents on matters such as conflict resolution, budgeting and money management.

It continues to be our goal to have a home for those completing treatment that would otherwise become homeless. In our 5-year plan we anticipate increasing our transitional residents from the current 19 to 38, acquire additional properties and improve immediate underdeveloped area and construction of a much needed 26-bed men’s dorm for our residential program, which would increase clients up from the current 13.

TAMB of Jackson, TN, understands the disease of addiction for exactly what it is, without ease to a chronic, painful and ultimately fatal desire for alcohol or drugs.
